What stranded astronauts are teaching us about home repairs

How could this happen? Our country, arguably the greatest nation on Earth for all time, sent 2 people up into outer space. We were told they had all “the right stuff”: A high level of intelligence, physical prowess, and advanced degrees from the most prestigious universities. They even had names like Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, that sound like super-heroes from Saturday morning cartoons.

And now suddenly, they are in mortal danger, facing a stark confrontation with their personal limitations. It’s a moment that all of their rigorous training and intense practice, all backed by massive federal funding, has not prepared them for.

So what is this one INSURMOUNTABLE thing they cannot do? They do not know how to FIX A LEAK!

Geez, if they had launched a Fix St Louis technician in the third seat of that spacecraft, holding a caulk gun in one hand and a propane torch in the other, this whole brouhaha never would have happened. It would have been fixed instantly, and they might not have even bothered to notify ground control.

But, now it’s too late. Fix St Louis can no longer help because their spacecraft is WAAAY outside of our service area. And, boy-oh-boy, is this gonna cost them. They now have to ask LITERALLY the richest man in the world to fly up there and bring the astronauts back. And, not to take anything away from him, I’m skeptical you can become the richest man in the world by charging low prices.

So what can we all learn from this? The message to the astronauts, and to all folks in general, is to have a little humility. No matter how smart you think you are, how successful you have been, and how many impressive-sounding credentials you have collected, there will always be some life-threatening things you don’t know, that others do. And for those times, you might want to consider stooping to seek the help of others. Possibly even from your humble handyman correspondent.

You see, at Fix St Louis we might not be able to fly to outer space, or perform surgery, or successfully argue a court case, or be the best parents. But we can do some IMPORTANT things you either don’t know how to do, or don’t have the time to learn to do, or you’d just as soon that WE risk our lives doing them, so you don’t have to.

For instance, among the thousands of small home repairs you may need, across the fields of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and more, we can:

— Make doors open, close, latch, and lock more easily.

— Make water stay in pipes, drains, and outside your home.

— Keep wires from sparking and burning down your house.

Not to brag, but our technicians at Fix St Louis have the “right stuff” to fix and improve your house. I may be wrong on this, but on the Judgment Day I don’t think they give points for living with things in your house that were never fixed, or trying to fix things yourself. Let us serve as your mission control for your home repairs.
