“What do I have to do to get ICE over here?” and other infrequently asked questions

Some like to think the human race has made tremendous progress since the beginning of time. But your humble correspondent has, if anything, become even MORE humble about our collective progress.

For instance, let’s take the only subject I know anything about, home repairs. Cavemen inhabited homes you might say were “etched in stone.” Now the eternal issue of WHO or WHAT did that etching is a question well beyond my limitations as a handyman, and you guys can fight that one out. But I hope we can agree that cavemen probably didn’t spend a whole lot of time thinking about remodeling, even after they invented hand tools. Because their walls and roofs were made of rock, and the invention of power tools was still millions of years off.

Fast forward to TODAY’S caveman-equivalent, “Subdivision Man.” Have we really progressed since then? Don’t most of us think of our homes as “etched in stone”? How many walls have you moved, and how many new ones have you built? How many NEW locations have you added for sinks, toilets, electrical outlets, and ceiling fans?

Once you buy a house, you might REDECORATE and MAINTAIN it, but most folks act like the basic structures and services in it are pretty much etched in stone, am I right?

Maybe the reason folks don’t think outside the redecorating box is because they don’t think outside the contractor box – and that’s understandable. You see, most contractors want big jobs, the type that cost $10,000 or more, where they can move into your house for a couple of weeks, and not have to scramble around working on a whole bunch of small jobs for a whole bunch of different people.

Well, Fix St Louis never thought what a contractor does is etched in stone. In fact, we are the ONLY ones who PREFER these smaller jobs that other contractors don’t want to do. Certainly this is true in St Louis, and we’re about to find out if this is also true in other cities, as we attempt to set-up franchises throughout the midwest beginning later this year (e.g. Fix Kansas City, Fix Peoria).

So, here’s some examples of these outside the box jobs that Fix St Louis does everyday.

Refrigerator Ice Makers
You might think you can’t ever use your refrigerator’s ice maker because there’s no water supply line there. But, running a water line up from the basement or across from your kitchen sink is no problem for Fix St Louis.

Outside Electrical Outlets
Wouldn’t it be great to have electrical outlets in the right places outside for holiday lights, power lawn and garden tools, and other uses? While Fix St Louis can make this happen in pretty much every situation, it’s real easy when we can punch through an outside wall that has an inside electrical outlet on the flip side.

Outside Faucets
Having a faucet outside is essential to water garden beds and lawns. If you don’t have one, or if it’s in the wrong place, Fix St Louis can install them, usually by tapping into cold water pipes on or above your basement ceiling. And if you already have an outside faucet, and it’s leaking or hasn’t worked for years, we can replace it.

Ceiling Lights and Fans
If you’re staring-up at a blank ceiling in a family room, bedroom, or anywhere else, and can’t imagine how it’s possible to get electricity up there to run lights or a ceiling fan, just contact Fix St Louis. We can run electrical wires there, even if there isn’t an attic above to crawl in.

So let Fix St Louis liberate you from Stone Age thinking, and add affordable amenities to your home that no caveman could ever dream of. But let’s not be cocky about it, and thank him for the wheel – that was a good one.
